Super Bowl Halftime Show Review: Lady Gaga Kicked Ass
We took off my sports reporter hat on Sunday night and became an unabashed Atlanta Falcons fan. By halftime of Super Bowl LI, we were in a great mood. The Falcons were up 21-3 over the New England Patriots. After our ‘pee’ break, we settled in the Super Bowl performance of Lady Gaga. We were curious what she would wear, would she get political, and would she lip sync? The good news was Lady Gaga kept her wardrobe conservative, avoided saying ‘Trump’, and sang live. Then her showmanship kicked in. Lady Gaga jumped off the roof of the stadium, had drones as a backdrop, and fans with choreographed lighting effects. It was one of the better halftime performances in the Super Bowl in recent history. Well done Lady Gaga.

Super Bowl Halftime Performance
I’m not the biggest Gaga fan, but Lady Gaga can sing. It was one of the better shows in recent Super Bowl history. The New Yorker published an extensive article about the concert. They wrote, “Gaga opened by singing a few bars each of “God Bless America” and “This Land Is Your Land,” spoke the last half of the Pledge of Allegiance, and then belly-flopped off a ledge. This was as overtly political as she would get.” They added, “What followed was an astute, intense, and disciplined performance.” Hours before Lady Gaga posted her planned setlist. Gaga performed “Poker Face,” “Born This Way,” “Telephone,” “Just Dance,” “Million Reasons”—accompanied only by her band, a battalion of dancers, and a man standing inside a keyboard ring.
The Second Half of the Super Bowl
We should have stopped watching during the third quarter. Unfortunately, I kept watching and the Patriots pulled off the largest comeback in Super Bowl history. During the night, the Patriots also broke several other NFL records. Personally, I f-ing hate the Patriots and wanted them blown out. I wanted the Uggs wearing, ball deflating, prima donna to admit defeat to a better team. We wanted Belichick’s status as one of the best coaches of all-time tarnished. I got none of that. That’s why the Lady Gaga performance put the Super Bowl to shame.https://youtu.be/mjrdywp5nyE
