Tom Brady and Patriots At Odds Over His Future
This morning as F&TS watched the Sunday morning NFL pre-game shows to catch up on the latest NFL intrigue, we discovered the league is abuzz with potential Patriots drama. The tenure of Tom Brady as New England Patriots quarterback may come to an end before he wants it to. According to Chris Mortensen of ESPN, and others, Brady is furious at team officials and the coaching staff for selecting Jimmy Garoppolo as his heir apparent.
End of the Brady Belichick Era
The main issue seems to be Brady’s desire to play (and earn big dollars) into his 40s as a starting quarterback. The drafting of Garoppolo and Brady’s diminishing impact on the Patriots’ offensive gameplans and personnel decisions are causing tensions to escalate. Per Jason LaCanfora of CBS Sports, the New England Patriots’ willingness to move on from popular, but declining veterans could be Brady’s undoing. The head coach and quarterback have been the most successful duo in the NFL. But, have they been together too long?

Brady Lashing Out at Coaches
Brady has lost his ‘cool’ many times this season on the sidelines. In the offseason, he accepted another team-friendly deal, provided that the extra cash would replenish the roster. But, until now, the Patriots have not developed new offensive threats. The Patriots have a myriad of issues along the offensive line and at their skill positions. Tight end Rob Gronkowski, is less than a year removed from his latest surgeries and hasn’t returned to his All-Pro form yet. Julian Edelman has been the only regular contributor at receiver and the running game is pathetic.
Belichick and owner Bob Kraft must add younger talent to the team as soon as possible. If they don’t, their ‘decade of dynasty’ will be nothing more than a distant memory. But will their need to improve cost the Patriots Tom Brady, their mythical superstar at quarterback? Read more details about a potential Brady/Patriots divorce at Bleacher Report.
