Rousey is Ready to Rumble; What About Floyd?
Could a super fight between MMA superstar Rhonda Rousey vs world champion boxer Floyd Mayweather actually happen? The answer continues to be, maybe. But if a fight by the respective champions did happen, Rousey believes she can make Mayweather tap out. Rousey participated in a Reddit “Ask Me Anything” session and addressed the continuing war of words with Money Mayweather. When asked if she could beat Mayweather in a ruleless fight, she said, “In a no-rules fight, I believe I can beat anyone on this planet. Boxing is a sweet science with strict rules….But you said ruleless fight, and that’s my honest answer.” In short, hot damn. SHOTS FIRED! Let’s make the showdown happen. Rousey vs Mayweather – Champion vs Champion
It’s one of the hottest debates in sports. Amongst our Fantasy Football crew, L. Vega is a bit of a boxing historian. The rest of us love the fight game and are MMA fans. We also polled amateur and professional boxers about a Rousey/Mayweather fight. In all our conversations, there’s no consensus about who would win. In a boxing match, we believe Money would dominate. But in a no-rules fight, all bets are off. Mayweather doesn’t know how to fight from his back or defend himself from a Rousey armbar. For Rousey, could she defend herself against Mayweather’s strikes from the outside? Is she quick enough to close down the distance between them and wrestle TMT to the ground? We may never know, but we are down to watch it happen.

The Verdict
Rousey speaks some sense. In a ruleless fight, you don’t typically square up and trade punches. Brawls are typically a frenetic exchange of blows, tackles, and whatever offensive move you can to land to survive. Mayweather’s footwork, hand speed, and punching power (which isn’t his strength) could be negated if Rousey got him to ground. However, TMT’s defense and quickness are exceptional. At the end of the day, this fight should happen. It would be a modern day Battle of the Sexes, just like the Bobby Riggs vs Billie Jean King tennis match.
