The Long-Awaited Return of the Victor Cruz Salsa Celebration
The Salsa is Back
Not much has gone right for the New York Giants to start their 2014-15 season. Coming into Sunday’s game at MetLife Stadium against the undefeated Texans, Big Blue was desperate for a win. They had already lost their first two games of the season to the Detroit Lions and Arizona Cardinals. But with one pass from Eli Manning in the second quarter, all is right for the New York Giants again. Manning hit wide receiver Victor Cruz on a first-down throw from the 26-yard line. One nifty juke by Cruz and he was into the end zone. Let the good times roll, the Victor Cruz salsa celebration was back. It was Cruz’s first touchdown catch since Week 4 in 2013 against the Chiefs. Furthermore, it was Cruz’s first touchdown reception at MetLife Stadium since 2012.
A Giants Victory
The Giants played some old school NFC football to secure a win. Running back Rashad Jennings ran for a career-high 176 yards and a touchdown. EManning threw two TD passes and beat the Houston Texans 30-17. The victory could help silence angry Giants fans and end any chance of a second straight horrible start for Tom Coughlin’s team. The Giants got a lot of contributions. There was the Cruz touchdown. The Big Blue defense intercepted Ryan Fitzpatrick three times, and even the Gaints’ special teams unit played a role in the win. They blocked a punt, setting up Manning’s second touchdown pass.
Giants fans finally had a lot to be happy about with the win. But at the end of the day, the sold out crowd at MetLife Stadium seemed most happy about the return of the Victor Cruz salsa celebration. It was a long time coming.
Fantasy Football Implications
In our Fantasy football league, Team Rich gave an exclusive interview to Mike Hunt of F&TS after the win. He revealed he dropped Victor Cruz from his bench for this game. We previously incorrectly reported Cruz was on the Team Rich bench inactive. He was completely dropped from the team. But it may be too early to pick up Cruz on the waiver wire. The Gaints offense remains consistently, inconsistent.
