Notable Injuries from the Week 7 NFL Games (2017)

The 2017 NFL season is nearly at the halfway point. By Week 7, NFL teams have wiped away the off-season rust, but typically face bigger hurdles-devastating injuries to notable players. We can add two more quarterbacks and a wide receiver to the list of offensive players that will miss significant time. Arizona Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer, the Miami Dolphins own quarterback Jay Cutler, and Baltimore Ravens’ wideout Mike Wallace were unable to finish this weekend’s games. Last week, The Green Bay Packers lost quarterback Aaron Rodgers for the rest of the season with a broken collarbone. Minnesota Vikings rookie running back Dalvin Cook tore the ACL in his knee. The New York Giants have lost their top three receivers to ankle injuries, and Houston Texans’ linebacker J.J. Watt fractured a bone in his left leg.

Carson Palmer, Arizona Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals lost to the Los Angeles Rams in London in embarrassing fashion, 33-0. But they lost more than the game. ESPN reports “Palmer took a big hit on a play in which he threw an interception. The Cardinals’ medical staff examined him on the sidelines before he headed back to the locker room, and Drew Stanton took over for Arizona on the next offensive series.” Head coach Bruce Arians informed the press and fans that Palmer broke his left arm and will miss eight weeks after surgery. The question remains, could we have seen the last of Carson Palmer? There were reports that Palmer was considering retirement during this past off-season. If the former USC Trojan makes a speedy recovery, he may be ready by Week 15. Palmer is a free-agent at the end of the season. Will he come back to finish out the year?

Jay Cutler, Miami Dolphins

Smoking Jay Cutler left Sunday’s game against the New York Jets with a chest injury. After the game and through Monday morning, reports varied on the severity of the injury. F&TS’ own insider, Dick Burns, couldn’t even get a straight answer from his Dolphins sources. Bleacher Report and ESPN’s Adam Schefter just updated Cutler’s injury. He reportedly has cracked ribs and could miss 2-3 weeks. Matt Moore would take over if Cutler can’t go.
