NY B-Ball Can’t Get It Right

The latest episode of “The Jake Brown Show” includes the host’s recap of the NBA Draft Lottery and its impact on the Brooklyn Nets and the New York Knicks. I am a die-hard Knicks fans and can’t stand the team from hipster heaven. But even I have to agree with my homie Jake. The biggest losers of this year’s Draft Lottery were the Nets and the blame falls squarely on the shoulders of former GM Billy King. Because of his stupidity, Brooklyn lost its first round draft picks until at least 2018.

Here is the breakdown of full 2013 trade between Celtics and Nets negotiated by GMs Danny Ainge (Boston) and  King (Brooklyn) respectively.

Brooklyn received: Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, Jason Terry and D.J. White.

Boston received: Gerald Wallace, Kris Humphries, MarShon Brooks, Kris Joseph, Keith Bogans and most importantly; Three first-round picks (2014, 2016 and 2018); and the right to swap first-rounders in 2017.

Ouch, that hurts. As bad the Nets were in 2016-17, the Celtics, who just won the Atlantic division, will also draft first later this summer.

Terry Collins on the Hot Seat

Brown’s also took a listener call from “Terry Collins Apologist” to discuss the sorry state of the Amazin’ Mets. Yes the team is injury-plagued and Terry has overworked his bullpen, but now is not the time to fire him. The Mets will be fortunate to save this season, but with all the veterans who are free agents after this season, the team’s makeup will be completely different next season anyway. I predict GM Sandy Alderson will let Terry go and try to hire Bob Geren.
