Johnny Manziel Enters Rehab Voluntarily To Save His Football Career
He labeled himself “a douche with a drinking problem.” These days, that quote could describe hundreds of celebrities, social media influencers, and professional athletes. But it was written by Johnny Manziel, aka Johnny Football, on his own Instagram page. Through his advisor Brad Beckworth, Johnny Manziel announced he checked himself into rehab. The Cleveland Browns’ first-round draft pick in 2014 has a well-chronicled past with drugs and alcohol abuse and had reached a critical junction in his NFL season. Manziel’s team released a statement to ESPN that read, “Johnny knows there are areas in which he needs to improve in order to be a better family member, friend, and teammate. He thought the offseason was the right time to take this step,” Beckworth said.
Manziel, selected by the Browns with the 22nd overall pick in the 2014 draft, completed 18 of 35 passes for 175 yards in seven quarters of NFL play before injuring his hamstring in Week 16.

Final Drunken Straw
Manziel has not lived up to his draft hype, thanks in part to his partying lifestyle. ESPN interviewed 20 Cleveland Browns’ employees and personnel sources about the former Aggie for their story. They discovered the young quarterback’s wild ways plagued his rookie season. Johnny Football displayed a yearlong pattern of lacking commitment and proper preparation. He failed to be ready when given a chance to enter games and more dedicated to nightlife than football.
Even when Manziel told the media he was taking his career more seriously, he failed. Manziel missed the team charter to Baltimore for the last game of the season. Manziel was allegedly found at his residence drunk off his ass by Browns’ security. Any belief fans had that he would dedicate his off-season to become the Browns starting quarterback was out the window.
Manziel’s Only Positive
Manziel will be in treatment for several weeks. But the amount of time depends largely on what doctors recommend, according to a source close to Manziel. A source said the Browns are tentatively expecting Manziel to participate in training camp but are not placing any timetables on other offseason activities as he works through the treatment process.
We aren’t big fans of Johnny Manziel. To us, he’s too short to be an effective NFL quarterback and we can’t anyone seriously who parties with Justin Bieber. Manziel’s only positive trait is the beautiful women that for some reason, hang out around him. For example, Manziel allegedly hooked up with the gorgeous Lauren Hanley who we featured in November 2014. Let’s hope the rehab stint of Johnny Manziel is the first step in a successful life and professional sports career.
