Gennady Golovkin Defeated David Lemieux at MSG
Three members of the F&TS Fantasy Football league went to Madison Square Garden on Saturday night to watch the Gennady Golovkin versus David Lemieux championship boxing match. So, three ‘bros’ went to the fights and a comedy ensued. The main event would unify the WBA (Super), IBO, IBF, and interim WBC Middleweight titles. The fight card also included Flyweights Ramon Gonzalez vs. Brian Viloria. This match stood out because it featured a fighter with one of the best nicknames ever, “Chocolatito” Gonzalez.
What Did F&TS Miss at the Fight?
Our editorial team was prepared to cover the event in real-time and publish a story after the fight. But, with the excitement of NLCS Game 1 Mets vs. Cubs, gentlemen bets, and a lethal mix of bourbon, vodka, and some beers, fight night was a bit of a blur. So was or commute home. Don’t worry, no one drove. F&TS did learn from post-fight coverage that Gennady Golovkin defeated David Lemieux with an 8th round TKO. Golovkin moved to an impressive 34-0 with 31 wins via knockout. We will certainly watch the replay on October 24 on HBO.
Bleacher Report wrote, “This [fight] wasn’t close. Lemieux was game, but Golovkin’s jab set the tone early, and GGG’s power shots ultimately forced referee Steve Willis to call an end to the bout. From the beginning of the bout, Golovkin pumped a hard, thudding jab into Lemieux’s face. The 33-year-old from Kazakhstan was patient and calculated despite the fact that he was headlining his first major pay-per-view bout.

In Conclusion
To Team Rich and the “Commish”, you missed a great night. Thanks to Team Vega for the images and the short video from the party. Let’s get ready to rumble! By the way, in hopes of ending one of the most hotly debated issues of the night, F&TS still believes Alexis Arguello is the best Latin fighter in boxing history. Roberto Duran was amazing, but we can’t get over “No Mas.” Thanks to a friend of the league Mike for the invite. Thankfully F&TS arrived safely to his home, down one iPhone, but with his faculties intact.
