49ers Cut Ray McDonald Amid Latest Sexual Assault Allegations

The egregious actions against women by defensive tackle Ray McDonald were finally too much to handle for the San Francisco 49ers. After reports of another sexual assault against an unidentified female became public this week, 49ers’ GM Ted Baalke cut Ray McDonald from the team. Baalke said about his decision to cut the defensive tackle because of his “pattern of poor decision-making.” He added, “While this organization has a strong belief in due process, and has demonstrated that over time, Ray has demonstrated a pattern of poor decision-making that has led to multiple distractions for this organization. “And that’s the reason for the decision that we made today.”

McDonald Has a Troubled Past

As reported by USA TodayMcDonald had multiple issues with the law over his NFL career. McDonald was previously arrested on suspicion of felony domestic violence in August 2014 but was not charged. He also was arrested on a drunken-driving charge in 2010.

The 49ers are obviously a team in turmoil. Head coach Jim Harbaugh has lost control of his team. Harbaugh has bred a culture of tolerance for irresponsible behavior and McDonald is just the latest 49ers player with issues. Linebacker Aldon Smith has had multiple personal conduct and legal problems, just like his teammate Ray McDonald. Smith was in a car accident and then arrested on suspicion of DUI and possession of marijuana in 2013. He entered a rehabilitation facility and left the team for five games. The next season, Smith violated the NFL’s substance abuse and personal conduct policies and served a nine-game suspension. Each time, the San Francisco 49ers welcomed Aldon Smith back to the team with open arms.

The 49ers need to take a stand against player misconduct and turn their organization around. Things haven’t been this bad for the name “McDonald” since we found out what really is in the McRib.
