Let’s Get Ready to Rumble

Jimmy Traina’s article on At The Buzzer on FoxSports.com is a must-read if you are dreaming of a Rousey versus Mayweather super fight. Rousey responded to a question on a Reddit “Ask Me Anything” session saying she could beat The Money Team (TMT) — and anyone else — in her chosen profession in a ruleless fight. Hot damn, SHOTS FIRED!!! Let’s do this thing.

Champion vs. Champion

It’s one of the hottest debates in sports and amongst our Fantasy Football crew when we shoot the “shiz.” My boy Vega is an amateur boxing historian. We are all fans of MMA and FTS polled amateur and professional boxers about this matchup. We haven’t gotten a unanimous answer either way. In a sanctioned boxing match, we believe Money would win, but an MMA Octagon is a different story. Rousey’s full comments were:

“Do I think I would legit beat Mayweather in a ruleless fight? Floyd is one of the best boxers of all time. He would definitely beat me in a boxing match. I unfortunately don’t get into ‘matches.’ I fight for a living. In a no-rules fight, I believe I can beat anyone on this planet. Boxing is a sweet science with strict rules that I respect very much and aspire every day to improve at. But you said ruleless fight, and that’s my honest answer.”

Our Verdict

Rousey speaks some sense. She could win a fight. In a ruleless fight, you don’t typically square up and trade punches. Fights usually are a frenetic exchange of blows, tackles and doing whatever you can to survive. Mayweather’s footwork, hand speed and punching power (which isn’t his strength) could be negated if Rousey got him to ground. However, TMT’s defense and quickness are exceptional. Could Rousey get in the offense and submission moves needed to defeat Mayweather? We want to see it. There isn’t enough money in the world to make this fight happen, but if it does–it’s must-see TV.

Let me know what you think. Who would win?
