NFL Fantasy Football Tips — Gettin’ It In, Week 4 (2017)

It’s Week 4 of the NFL 2017-18 season and that means we can make better ‘guesstimates’ of both player and team performances. What have we learned so far? The Atlanta Falcons and Kansas City Chiefs are clearly the class of their respective conferences. The Los Angeles Rams and quarterback Jared Goff are better than expected, and Tom Brady uses a time machine. The 40-year old quarterback has shown no signs of slowing down and has averaged 33.25 fantasy points (TD scoring) since his Week 1. Also, even after fumbling in his first career carry, rookie Chiefs’ running back Kareem Hunt has been a fantasy stud. So if you need advice for setting your roster, here’s our NFL Fantasy Football Tips of the week.

We will compare them against Bleacher Report’s Start’Em, Sit’Em to figure out who really knows what they are talking about.

NFL Fantasy Quarterbacks for Week 4

Marcus Mariota versus the Houston Texans

Marcus Mariota continues to be a reliable dual-threat quarterback, but he has been inconsistent over four weeks. He will have a lot in common with his opponent this week. Over the last two weeks, the Houston Texans gave up nine points in Week 9 and then 36 points against Brady and the New England Patriots. F&TS still doesn’t believe that Mariota has taken that next step to the elite level, so buyer beware. B/R’s Paul Kasabian is projecting Mariota will have 225 passing yards, one interception, 50 rushing yards, two passing touchdowns, and one rushing touchdown for a total of 29 fantasy football points.

Tom Brady (Home) versus Carolina Panthers

Even without his favorite wide receiver Julian Edelman, Brady has been hot. Plus, the Patriots finally figured out how to get new Patriot Brandin Cooks the ball. Bleacher Report is projecting Brady scores his third straight 300-yard passing game and we agree. Of course, being honest, Brady is our QB 1, so we are a bit biased.

Our Pick:

Eli Manning versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Eli Manning is rated as the #6 QB in fantasy rankings for Week 4, so he’s not a sleeper. We are picking Eli with our heart more than our head. The New York Giants were projected to be playoff and championship contenders during the pre-season, so they can’t afford to go 0-4. The G-Men used a quick strike passing game to keep Eli protected from QB pressures and sacks. So, expect low running numbers and a lot of attempts and yards from Eli and the Giants.

NFL Fantasy Running Backs for Week 4

Dalvin Cook (Home) versus Detroit Lions

Dalvin Cook is the #2 rated RB for Week 4 according to Bleacher Report. Cook rushed for 97 yards and his first career TD against the Bucs. He also had 72 receiving yards in Week 3. We disagree with our namesake based on few factors. The Lions are at home and relatively speaking, their defense has played well. Minnesota Vikings‘ quarterback Sam Bradford will not play this week due to injury. Backup quarterback Case Keenum is under center. We expect the Detroit Lions to load up the box to stop Cook and force the Vikings to throw the ball down the field.

Our Pick:

Leonard Fournette at New York Jets

As we wrote last week, we are going to pick against the Jets every week until their defense proves they can pitch weekly shutouts.

NFL Fantasy Tight Ends For Week 4

Rob Gronkowski (Home) versus Carolina Panthers

The Kansas City Chiefs contained Rob Gronkowski during Week 1, but Gronk should be a reliable TE 1 for the season. Not even nagging injuries are expected to slow down his production. He left New England’s Week 2 win over the New Orleans Saints in the third quarter with a groin injury. The All-Pro tight end racked up 116 yards and one touchdown on 10 receptions against the Saints before leaving the game.

Our Pick:

Zach Ertz at LA Chargers

We may have underestimated the Philadelphia Eagles‘ combination of Carson Wentz to Zach Ertz. The duo is developing great chemistry, but overall, the Eagles are not scoring a lot of points. Ertz has averaged 9 targets a week and if one of those receptions is in the end zone, you could be looking at more than 20 fantasy football points. The Chargers are winless and treading water. While linebacker Joey Bosa may be a force rushing the passer, he can be exposed in coverage.
