Highlight of the Week: Chargers’ Eric Weddle Packs a Punch

Charged Up Big Hit.

San Diego Chargers captain Eric Weddle led a defensive effort that stifled a struggling Buffalo Bills’ offense on Sunday. QB Phillips Rivers connected with WR Eddie Royal on two scores, and the San Diego defense recorded a safety. The Chargers defeated the Bills 22-10 to improve to 2-1 on the season. A huge hit by Weddle on Bills’ WR Marquise Goodwin punctuated the afternoon in Western New York. Bills’ QB EJ Manuel is going to get his receivers killed. The win was everything the Chargers could ask for, except Danny Woodhead, the versatile SD running back, suffered a severe ankle injury on San Diego’s first drive.

Efficient Win

Eddie Royal’s touchdown receptions please astute fantasy football players. Royal is a low-ranked receiver in mock drafts and WR rankings lists. But the slot receiver can be a key addition to rosters from the waiver wire. Tom Krasovic of the Union-Tribune wrote, “The gap in aptitude between Rivers and Bills counterpart EJ Manuel was just too great for San Diego to lose, barring strange events.” He added, “The Chargers had the only true NFL quarterback on the field, and it really didn’t matter that former first-round draftees Ryan Mathews and Melvin Ingram were inactive.”

Weird Observation of the Game

This Eddie Royal image went viral on Sunday. Was Royal in the dryer for too long. Social media exploded because of the strange perspective in the image. Is Royal a little person or is OL King Dunlap some sort of Shrek-like ogre?
