Fantasy Football Tips: Gettin’ It In, Week 9

Starts of the Week

The Arizona Cardinals, Ravens, Lions, Chiefs and Seahawks all have byes. This has left thousands of fantasy owners scrambling to adjust their rosters. For our teams, we were forced to pick up two new defenses and kickers. Plus, we needed to pick up a replacement RB for the injured Le’Veon Bell.

Craig Bennett of Heavy.com offers this week’s picks for top projected fantasy performers. As customary, we will give you our advice along the way.

QB – Ben Roethlisberger v. the Raiders

In total transparency, we drafted and waived Big Ben earlier this season. We retained Phillip Rivers instead. Without Le’Veon Bell, the Raiders may play coverage. This could open up running lanes for De’Angelo Williams. We are not buying Big Ben as our QB 1.

Our Pick:

Derek Carr v. the Steelers

Hard to argue with this pick – Carr to Amari Cooper, who have become known as “AC/DC,” has been one of the most dynamic duos in the league and I have not been impressed by Ike Taylor.

RB/Start of the Week

Chris Ivory v. the Jaguars

We know its the Jags. Conventional wisdom tells us that Ivory will bounce back after two bad games. Given the Jets QB woes (paging Tim Tebow,) we expect to Jags to load up on Ivory and force whomever is under center to push the ball downfield.

Our Pick:

Antonio Andrews v. the Saints – We damn well hope so, we picked him up off waivers two weeks ago.

WR/Start of the Week

Michael Crabtree v. the Steelers

Sure we could have gone with Julio Jones or Demaryius Thomas, but that was too simple. Crabtree’s targets are on the rise and defenses have started game planning for Amari Cooper.

Our Pick:

Julian Edelman v. Washington – Tom Brady, no DeAngelo Hall plus a Washington secondary that ranks 21st against opposing WRs. Yes, we concur.
