49ers Drama: Harbaugh Can’t Be Saved by Lombardi
It’s tough times for California’s most annoying team. FTS’ Mike Hunt and a gaggle of NFL ‘insiders,’ are reporting that the Niners’ HC Jim Harbaugh will not return to the organization next season. Does Harbaugh’s act get old quickly? Yes. Has Harbaugh and GM Jed York been at odds over personnel decisions? Yes. But the real reason for the conflict could be another team’s Hall of Fame quarterback…Peyton Manning.
Jay Glazer of Fox Sports and ESPN reported this morning that the former Michigan Wolverine and Indianapolis Colts’ QB lost the Niners locker room in 2012. The coach recruited Manning to sign with the 49ers as a free agent at the expense of QB Alex Smith. The speculation is Smith asked Harbaugh directly if he planned to recruit Manning and Harbaugh flatly replied, no. Unfortunately, Harbaugh then traveled to North Carolina to meet with Manning.
49ers players no longer trust Harbaugh and even if they win the Super Bowl, the organization is ready to move on, they just haven’t said it publicly. Good, Bad, or indifferent, Harbaugh has been a great SF head coach. His .680 winning percentage would rank 10th all-time in NFL history. If the 49ers win today’s game against the Cardinals, Harbaugh’s percentage would jump to fifth, behind only Guy Chamberlin, John Madden, Vince Lombardi, and George Allen.
Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive. By the look of our featured image, at least Harbaugh has a future in erotica.
Jim is my coach. We are trying to win a SB, not a personality or popularity contest. Any more questions?
