Fantasy Football Playoffs: The Fat Lady Hasn’t Sung Yet
It Ain’t Over Till It’s Over.
Team Marin lost this weekend at the hands of Team Weiss (90-47) thanks to 21 points from Chargers’ TE Antonio Gates and 20+ point games from both Panthers’ QB Cam Newton and RB Jonathan Stewart. Pablo picked the wrong time to have one of his worst fantasy football weeks of the year. It’s the playoffs.
The “Me Seahornies” would never wish injury on any player, but it would have been convenient for Cam to have taken more time to recover from his recent car accident. It’s going to take a minor miracle for Team Marin to win, but it is that time of year, so no lead is safe.
Can it be Done?
Great comebacks happen in sports all the time.
In 2004, the Boston Red Sox trailed the New York Yankees three games to zip in the ALCS. The Red Sox ended the curse and for the first time in MLB history, came back from 3-0 down to win a series.
The Dallas Mavericks trailed the Miami Heat 88-73 with about seven minutes left in the fourth quarter of Game 2 of the 2011 NBA Finals. An injured Dirk Nowitzki led his team back, scoring the go-ahead basket with three seconds remaining. The Heat won Game 3 of the series, but then the Mavericks won three games in a row to become champs.
In the NFL, who doesn’t remember the Buffalo Bills comeback against the Houston Oilers in 1993? Houston held a 35-3 lead over the Bills in the third quarter of their wild-card playoff. The Oilers were early season favorites to win the Super Bowl. Warren Moon and his teammates stepped off the gas pedal and lost 41-38, in overtime. It’s still the largest blown lead ever in the postseason.
If these teams could do it, Team Marin has a punchers chance.
