NFL Cut Day, Big Names Who Made the List
Will these names effect your draft board
I’m Sorry Son, It’s Over.
The final cut day before Week 1 of the NFL regular season usually results in some shocking moves. Given the current size of team rosters, the pressure on teams to win now and the huge salaries dedicated to top draft picks and free agents, cut day is down right cold hearted. Teams are forced to make tough decisions and they don’t always make sense to their fans.
Can’t Make it in New York
Locally for the two New York teams, the most surprising cuts were former Giant, RB Andre Williams, Jets TE Jace Amaro and CB Dee Milliner. Williams had an impressive rookie season, but Big Blue went with more versatile Bobby Rainey and Orleans Darkwa.
I believe Amaro and Milliner were victims of the new Jets’ brain trust. Amaro couldn’t catch a cold and Milliner was considered a draft bust and they were holdovers from the Idzik/Ryan regime. The head coach and GM want to prove to its fanbase that it’s a New Day for the Jets. (Booty Os, they make sure you’re not booty.)
Other cuts around the league that caught my attention:
- QB Mark Sanchez (DEN) – beat out by an undrafted rookie and subsequently picked up by the Cowboys. Oh, how the former 12th pick overall has fallen…
- WR Brandon Tate (CIN) – courtesy of Ian Rapoport
- WR James Jones (SD) – credit to Luke Rodgers
- CB Brandon Brower (SEA) – courtesy of Jared Dubin
- LB Justin Houston (KC)
- RB Dion Lewis (NE)
